  2. Industrial Organizations 
  3. AFL-CIO Superseding the Federation of 
  4. Organized Trades and Labor Unions of the USA 
  5. and Canada, and was initially a union of 
  6. skilled craftworkers. The CIO was known in 
  7. 1935 as the Committee on Industrial 
  8. Organization (it adopted its present title 
  9. 1937 after expulsion from the AFL for its 
  10. opposition to the AFL policy of including 
  11. only skilled workers). A merger reunited 
  12. them 1955, bringing most unions into the 
  13. national federation, currently representing 
  14. about 20% of the workforce in North America.
